Spring 2017: Partners & Alumni Meeting / Work in Progress Forum III

Dear all,

I hope that 2017 finds you well and happy to commence a productive and interesting year that will fulfil all your wishes on personal and professional life.

I recently realized that 2017 marks the 20th anniversary from the establishment of our Network. Twenty years of collaboration between so many countries and with so many common actions is a rather exceptional achievement for the academic life. I would therefore like to propose to celebrate this occasion by organising a big meeting, to renew our fruitful collaboration, but most importantly to delineate our next chapter and our promising future.

As 2016 is already history, we must regrettably admit that it has been a hard year for us all. We witnessed various shocking and troubling events across Europe and all over the world; the –not only financial- crisis that has long begun seems to be escalating to impacting our lives at all levels. Indeed, 2016 has been a year that we experienced in a state ranging from shock to frustration until the very last day. Despite the prevailing insecurity and the difficulties, we face on daily basis, I believe that it is necessary that we stay alert and active, thus remaining open to new challenges.

Especially during these challenging times, it is of prime importance to join forces and actively support solidarity, tolerance and diversity; concepts that have characterized the very nature of Arc-Net meetings and summer courses since its beginning.

We, the Greek team, started discussing since Autumn 2016 about a meeting in spring 2017. More specifically, we thought of organizing an alumni forum in combination with a partners’ meeting. The aims would be to exchange ideas on the next generation of summer courses in the years to come.

The proposed dates are 11-14 May 2017 and the proposed place is Sounion/Lavrion that together with Epidaurus hosted our summer course all these last years, from 2012 to 2015. Of course, we will provide all of you with detailed information about the schedule, accompanying events, accommodation and attendance fees, etc., so that you will be able to make all necessary arrangements as early as possible.

From our part, we are making every possible effort to ensure the smooth outcome of this forthcoming meeting, hoping that it will be the first of many more to come. We would very much appreciate your thoughts and feedback on our plans and proposals.

We are all looking forward to hearing from you.

With all best wishes for 2017,

Platon
